Ms. Yvette - Reading Specialist/ Educator

Ms. Yvette joins our program with her impressive 22 year career in education.  After graduating from college Ms. Yvette worked as a case manager in two New York City high schools for four years. Through the “Attendance Intervention Drop-out Program” she conducted workshops, provided individual and group counseling, made home visits, and maintained a one hundred student caseload. Her job as a case manager led her to another educational venture. She took a director position with New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) funded Beacon program. Here she developed and implemented educational and recreational programs for the community. However, her love for swimming and working directly with children overshadowed her position. She was offered the aquatics director position at a Boys & Girls’ Club. She accepted and immediately began working at redesigning the aquatics division and bringing the three indoor swimming pools up to state code. Not only did this position allow her to work in the field of aquatics, it also gave her an opportunity to work throughout the club. Thus, realizing she had a need to teach inside the classroom as well.

Ms. Yvette returned to school to receive a Masters of Education degree in special education and taught on the pre-k and elementary school level. She began teaching middle and high school age children upon moving to South Carolina in 2004. From here she has taught general education and special needs students ranging from pre-k to high school. Ms. Yvette loves working with children and believes that service to others is a great honor and responsibility. She looks forward to numerous other experiences; as her journey has only begun.
